Eastern Greenland
Expedition to Eastern Greenland with Natural Habitat Adventures in association with World Wildlife Fund
Our journey started with a flight from Reykjavik, Iceland, to Kulusuk, Greenland where we boarded a helicopter for the flight to Tasiilaq. A four hour boat journey through the Angmagssalik and Ikasagtivaq Fjords took us to Base Camp Greenland, marked with an X. The areas in the Sermilik Fjord marked in blue were explored by Zodiac. To return to Tasiilaq, because the ice had blocked the harbors and fjords, we helicoptered over the glacier (marked in red). Although this is a large area, compared to the overall size of Greenland, it is a mere pinprick on the map. The impact of climate change, even in this small area, is compelling with, among other things, larger than average numbers of icebergs that have broken off the melting glaciers.
