Originally constructed as Hadrian's Mausoleum before being turned int a stronghold for the Popes, the Castel Sant'Angelo consists of a circular structure on a square base
In the foreground are statues on the Ponte Sant'Angelo designed by Bernini. The bridge was built by Hadrian in AD 136 to give him access to his Mausoleum.
